ABOUT THE ROLE
Do you enjoy meeting new people? We are looking for a Bar & Café Assistant who will play a crucial role in the smooth running of our bar and café at our brand new site at Sadler’s Wells East. As the Bar and Café Assistant, you will provide a great experience for our guests and drive sales using your strong knowledge of our products and your infectious personality.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
Key responsibility areas
- Take an active role in the operation across both the bar and café. Be a positive customer facing team player.
- Support the events team when required, be flexible and knowledgeable across all areas.
- Drive sales display a strong knowledge of all products available in all catering outlets.
- Be familiar with all food safety and health and safety policies to ensure compliance.
- Be a competent to open and close a shift.
- Support operations at other sites when required.
Operations
- Smooth and efficient day-to-day operations ensuring system compliance.
- Flexibility and familiarity across catering areas and operation at Sadlers Well’s East.
- Maintain high standards of service, conduct and professionalism.
- Ensure all aspects of ‘customer facing’ services are consistently delivered.
- Ensure readiness for all service areas.
- Work closely with other team members to ensure a coherent working environment.
Financial
- Basic numeracy.
- Capability to re-stock and keep all areas well-presented and fit for purpose.
- Good understanding of the till system to ensure speed of service.
- Controlling wastage wherever possible and stock rotation.
Health and Safety, Food Safety
- Ensure H&S and Food Safety are adhered to to ensure compliance.
- Ensure cleanliness of all catering areas is maintained and all relevant records are completed.
- Report any damages of equipment or building to the line manager for quick repair.
- Support marketing activities and offers across the business to drive sales.
Communication
- To be articulate, welcoming and polite to all colleagues and visitors.
- Work closely with other teams to develop positive result focused relationships.
- Communicate feedback received to drive improvements.
General

- To carry out all administrative work generated by the above activities.
- Attend occasional staff meetings, training sessions and other events.
- Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required.
- At all times to carry out duties and responsibilities with regard to Sadler’s Wells’ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Health and Safety Policies. This may include providing assistance with evacuation procedures or building searches in the event of an emergency at any of Sadler’s Wells’ premise.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Experience working in a busy bar and/or café environment.
- Articulate, welcoming and polite, confident in a customer facing role.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to use your own initiative and prioritise.
- A basic understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety.
- Level-headed, sensible, trustworthy and reliable.
- Team player.
- A passion for hospitality.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
- Must currently hold the right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
- Experience in a venue/visitor attraction organisation.
- Familiarity with wine, cocktails and draft beer service.
- Barista experience.
- Experience in a food service environment.
