BBC Studios is the global commercial arm of the BBC Group. In just 5 years, it has doubled annual sales to circa £2bn and has ambitious plans to double again by 2027/28, through a mix of organic and inorganic growth.

The company creates, invests in, develops, produces and distributes world class content for the BBC and its customers and partners around the world.  You’ll be part of the BBC Studios HR team of around 100 people.

You’ll learn to use machine learning and AI to create efficient ways of working and a world-class experience for our staff. You’ll also learn to use predictive analytics to help inform long-term strategic workforce planning.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship ?

As a Data Science Apprentice, this is a great opportunity to join an exciting BBC team while developing your knowledge in areas like:

  • Data Infrastructure & Tools.
  • Data Visualisation & Dashboards.
  • Data Engineering.
  • Data Analytics.
  • Project Management.
  • Machine Learning.
  • Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning.

What will you be studying ?

You’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job. This means you’ll spend at least one day a week studying for a BSc (Hons) in Data Science with BPP University remotely.

Where could the role take you ?

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be able to able to look for job opportunities inside or outside the BBC in careers such as Data Science, Informatics & Data Engineering.

This scheme starts in September 2025, and you will be on a fixed term contract which means your contract is for the duration of the apprenticeship only.  The duration of this scheme is 36 months.

Great Data Science Apprentices are those who can demonstrate they:

  • Have brilliant organisational skills and are great at problem-solving and negotiating.
  • Can manage multiple deadlines and demands on your time.
  • Have a calm and focused approach to changing circumstances.
  • Have a keen interest in the BBC and how people consume content, bursting with fresh ideas to introduce new perspectives.
  • Are an enthusiastic self-starter, flexible and adaptable to out-of-hours working.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2025.
  • By the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025, have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract.
  • Not currently taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.
  • Have achieved, or expected to achieve, by the start of the scheme, a minimum of 104 UCAS points.This should include A Level/Higher Maths, or an extended BTEC in Engineering with Engineering Maths, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level.
  • To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • If you have not achieved these qualifications by the start of your apprenticeship, you will be required to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 before the end of your apprenticeship when you take your end-point assessment.
