ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Level 2 Apprentice Site Engineering Assistant, you will support site engineers in the planning, setting out, and management of construction projects. Working under supervision, you will assist with surveying, collecting data, checking measurements, and maintaining accurate site records. This role provides hands-on experience while you develop core technical skills and knowledge through your apprenticeship training.
- Assist in setting out and surveying activities on site.
- Support engineers in monitoring project progress and quality control.
- Help maintain site documentation and records.
- Use basic engineering instruments and tools.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Attend apprenticeship training and apply learning on-site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with Setting Out:
- Help site engineers mark out reference points and guide lines using surveying equipment such as levels, GPS, and total stations.
- Ensure measurements are accurate and comply with design plans.
Support Surveying Activities:
- Assist in collecting data for topographical and as-built surveys.
- Record site conditions and changes as instructed by the site engineer.
Maintain Site Records:
- Keep daily logs and records of site activities, materials used, and progress. Assist in updating drawings and documents as required.
Quality Assurance Support:
- Help monitor and report on the quality of materials and workmanship on site.
- Check basic dimensions, levels, and alignment according to project specifications.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Follow all site safety rules and use PPE appropriately.
- Identify and report potential hazards to supervisors.
Communication and Teamwork:
- Work closely with site engineers, tradespeople, and other apprentices.
- Attend daily briefings and contribute to team discussions.
Learning and Development:
- Participate in all required training sessions and assessments.
- Apply classroom knowledge to practical site tasks.
Qualification, Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
- GCSEs Grade C (or Grade 4) or above in Maths and English.
- Basic Numeracy & Literacy: Able to understand measurements, follow instructions, and complete records accurately.
- Attention to Detail: Capable of working with precision when assisting in setting out and measuring. Communication Skills: Can clearly follow and relay instructions, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Problem-Solving Attitude: Willing to ask questions and seek solutions when issues arise.
- Basic IT Skills: Familiar with using devices like tablets or computers for data entry and digital plans (training provided as needed).
- Manual Dexterity & Physical Fitness: Able to handle tools, carry materials, and work safely in an outdoor construction environment.
Essential Experience:
- No formal experience required – this is an entry–level apprenticeship.
- Some prior exposure to construction sites or technical subjects (e.g., through school, work experience, or part- time roles) is beneficial but not mandatory.
