ABOUT THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLD

With the Royal Household, everyday jobs become exceptional. This is because, whatever their role and whichever department they’re in, our people are part of something remarkable. They provide invaluable support to the Royal Family – enabling them to fulfil their duties and serve the nation. And, working in magnificent and historic surroundings, they’re inspired to deliver to a higher standard.

We are a truly diverse organisation – not just in the range of people who work here, but also in the careers that we offer. Alongside the roles you may expect, you’ll find everything from HR, Finance and IT professionals to Engineers, Curators and Chefs. They all work as one towards a shared and unique purpose.

Building a career here means both upholding cherished traditions and exploring new ideas to take the Household and our work forward. You’ll be trusted and supported, and proud of the contribution you make. Collaboration, variety and challenge will become commonplace. And, in an environment that is unexpectedly business-minded and refreshingly down-to-earth, you’ll be able to take your career to the next level.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Joining our highly accomplished team, you’ll work hands-on to help support your colleagues to deliver food to the highest standards.

You’ll maintain the kitchen environment to ensure our chefs have all they need to deliver meals throughout the day. You’ll clean equipment, surfaces, refrigeration and utensils ready for use, as well as assist when required with basic food preparation.

Our team members work collaboratively, with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the kitchen. With training and support embedded in our team culture, you’ll be encouraged to grow your skills.

Although based at Buckingham Palace, you’ll also work at different Royal residences throughout the year.

Typical Working Pattern

We offer a flexible and supportive working environment. Our standard working week is around 45 hours, with two days off in every seven and regular weekends off (and sometimes evenings). When travel to other Royal Residences is required, split shifts may be part of the schedule, and any travel time is balanced with time off in lieu upon return.

We value work-life balance and aim to accommodate individual needs. Typically, rotas are planned four weeks in advance to provide plenty of notice and stability.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience in a similar role would be an advantage, however this isn’t necessary, as our training will provide you with all the skills you need.
  • What’s more important is that you enjoy working in a team.
  • You’re happy to get involved, use initiative and work with your colleagues to achieve a smooth daily service.
  • You take care and pride in your work, and so aim to deliver great results in all that you do.
  • A good understanding of food hygiene and safety would also be beneficial, but it’s not necessary as we’ll organise training for you.
  • Above all, you’re keen to develop your skills and gain experience within an exceptional team environment.

Location: Buckingham Palace
