ABOUT THE CROWN ESTATE’S GLASSHOUSE STREET PROJECT
This apprenticeship is part of an initiative within The Crown Estate’s supply chain called the Create Programme. The Crown Estate focuses on tackling inequalities, creating inclusive places and opportunities, and placing net zero and environmental impact at the heart of its activities. The Glasshouse Street project is a net zero focused heritage and retrofit project. It supports skills
development in the construction sector and promotes social mobility in London. The apprenticeship is supported through the programme, and the apprentice’s line manager will receive specialist management training from Workwhile, a partner of The Crown Estate.
ABOUT GETJAR LIMITED
Getjar is a specialist construction contractor working across complex London projects, including structural works, cut and carve, demolition, temporary works, logistics, and site delivery. Getjar works closely with clients, principal contractors, training providers and local authorities to support apprenticeships, skills development, and employment routes into construction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Level 2 Demolition Operative Apprentice will support demolition and soft strip activities on site under supervision.Assisting with soft strip and demolition activities under supervision.
- Segregating materials for reuse, recycling, and disposal in line with site requirements.
- Using hand tools and small equipment safely.
- Maintaining safe working areas, exclusion zones, and good housekeeping standards.
- Following risk assessments, method statements, and site instructions.
- Supporting environmental protection and recycling requirements.
- Wearing PPE and RPE as required.
- Communicating with supervisors, operatives, and site management.
- Working to deadlines and attending site punctually each day.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications, Knowledge & skills:
Candidates must:
- Be willing to work in a physical site-based role.
- Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Be punctual, reliable and able to follow instructions.
- Be able to work as part of a team.
- Show an interest in demolition, strip out, recycling, and material segregation.
- I have basic maths and English skills.
- Hold a valid CSCS card.
- Be 18 years old or over, where required by site or role conditions.
Training, Supervision and Support
Training, supervision and day-to-day instruction will be provided by the site management team, including the Foreman and Supervisors.
The apprentice will also complete formal training through London South East College as part of the Level 2.
Qualifications and training requirements will be in line with council, principal contractor, and apprenticeship requirements. Demolition-specific training will be provided subject to role requirements and progress.
