PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Plumbing Apprentice will support qualified plumbers in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of plumbing and mechanical services systems. The role combines on-the-job training with formal college education, providing practical experience in accordance with industry standards, health and safety requirements, and company procedures.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Assist qualified plumbers with the installation of hot and cold water systems, drainage, heating pipework, and associated fittings.
  • Carry out basic plumbing tasks under supervision, including pipe cutting, jointing, fixing brackets, and installing sanitaryware
  • Support testing, commissioning, fault finding, and repairs of plumbing systems.
  • Prepare work areas, tools, materials, and equipment prior to work commencing.
  • Read and follow drawings, specifications, and method statements.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards on site and ensure work areas are left clean and safe.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including use of PPE.
  • Attend college or training provider as required and complete all coursework, assessments, and logbooks.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, site managers, and other trades.
  • Report defects, issues, or unsafe conditions to the supervising plumber.
  • Learn and apply relevant plumbing regulations and industry best practice.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Skills & Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or willing to enrol on a recognised Plumbing Apprenticeship (NVQ / SVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (preferred but not essential).
  • CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong interest in plumbing and mechanical services.
  • Basic understanding of hand tools, materials, and site working practices.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Good timekeeping, reliability, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Basic awareness of health and safety requirements on construction sites.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks.
  • Ability to work in a professional manner in occupied and live environments.
