ABOUT SERGISON BATES ARCHITECTS
Since its founding in 1996, this award-winning architectural practice has expanded into a major European firm, transforming large-scale urban sites like former factories and hospitals into significant cultural and residential projects. With a collaborative and sustainable ethos, they focus on expertly crafting durable, adaptable buildings and re-imagining existing structures, continually informed by academic research and a deep interest in innovative housing solutions.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll be working in small teams which will be focussed on specific architecture projects. You’ll be supporting that team (and they’ll be supporting you) to make progress towards the realisation of that project. As such, the work will depend on the project stage (whether it is at very early design process for example, or whether it is ready to be submitted for planning permission or even whether it is being built on site).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
- Modelmaking for the purposes of exploring design options
- Developing 2D and 3D CAD skills for the presentation and visualisation of proposed designs.
- Helping to pull together information ahead of the issue of information (e.g. for tender purposes)
- Participation in internal design reviews, where latest proposals are presented and discussed with colleagues for design development
- Exploration of building materials for use in project proposals and discussion on these options with colleagues.
- Insight into how design decisions are made and how the complexities of site analysis, client brief, legislation and cost constraints (amongst other factors) play a role in the development of a typical construction project.
- Insight into how sustainability goals can be met in the design of projects
- Site visits to see the location of proposed buildings or (dependent on opportunities) buildings which are under construction.
- Insights into the production of the information required (and the organisational structures needed) to make buildings.
- Sketching and image-making for the purposes of designing buildings.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates should have an interest in working in architecture as a career
- Be engaged, reliable, hardworking, and curious.
