ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Café Assistant who will play a crucial role in the Catering & Events department by giving customers and colleagues a great experience at our café.

As our Café Assistant, you will welcome customers, make and serve drinks and maintain the presentation of the café.

The Café Assistant plays an important part in the smooth running of the Fox Garden Court Café, ensuring that high quality food and drink are served to the customers from a clean and welcoming environment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Welcome customers, sharing information about the offers available, answer any questions, take orders and payments.
  • Prepare and serve drinks, serve food ensuring a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Ensure that you have good knowledge of offers available, and be aware of any changes to our menu/discounts/timetable.
  • Be proactive in providing excellent customer service, and to use your own initiative to maximise sales.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to any customer feedback, comments or complaints.
  • Clean the café area, ensuring excellent hygiene at all times and that the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties are carried out.
  • Adhere to the company’s cash handling and stock control procedures.
  • Correctly operate tills and card machines to ensure there are no discrepancies.
  • Ensure that you are well-presented and well-groomed at all times to maintain a high level of hygiene in the café area.
  • Abide by and enforce appropriate licensing regulations.
  • Report any issues or problems, that may arise, to the management team.
  • Work and be available at other catering areas, such as bars and/or events when required.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Passion for food/drink and an interest in the events/hospitality sector.
  • A customer-focused approach.
  • Commitment high standards and being industry standard compliant.
  • Friendly personality with good communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out duties using your own initiative, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a flexible approach to work, with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Be well-presented with a professional approach to work.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Must currently hold the right to work in the United Kingdom.
  • Previous café /barista/hospitality experience.
  • Previous experience working in bars and/or events.
  • Previous visitor attraction experience (desirable).
  • Existing health and safety or food safety understanding or training (desirable).

Hours: The Café Assistant will work 35 hours per week over five days (including bank holidays and weekends).

The cafe opening times vary depending on the other activity in the building. Operating hours are 09:00 – 21:00.
