ABOUT THE ROLE

Floor Assistants at V&A East Museum work across all front of house functions to deliver an exceptional visitor experience. They understand the V&A’s core values and ensure that our visitors and diverse audiences feel welcome and engaged.

This fixed-term contract supports the operational delivery of our temporary exhibition alongside regular front of house functions.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide essential, daily operational support to The Music is Black, including morning exhibition checks and set up.
  • Ensure that visitors feel welcome, engaged with and safe in our building.
  • Work across multiple areas, including ticketing, retail and membership sales, public programme and events support.
  • Work in our retail spaces, upselling products and memberships, and maintaining display standards.
  • Ensure that V&A East’s values are woven through our visitor experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Front of House team and Volunteering team.
  • Keep V&A East Museum safe and looking its best by reporting maintenance issues and highlighting hazards.
  • Support senior staff in the delivery of wider strategic objectives.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Someone who is a confident communicator, friendly and great with people – able to make our visitors from all backgrounds feel welcome.
  • A self-starter who can think on their feet, problem-solve, prioritise, and take action in a fast-paced environment.
  • Is excited about V&A East’s vision.
  • Is a team-player – happy to support other team members and work together.
  • Is commercially minded and confident to upsell effectively.
  • Is reliable, punctual and organised – someone who will turn up to work on time for each shift they are scheduled for.
  • Has an interest in art, design and performance.
  • Shares our Values of Sustainability, Equity, Creativity, Collaboration & Generosity.
  • Familiar with the local environment, target V&A East audience and live in, or have lived experience of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest.

V&A are looking for someone with transferable skills and not necessarily someone with a conventional museum background.

Fixed term contract: From 26th May 2026 to 3rd January 2027.

Hours: 38 hours per week. Working hours are Wed-Sun or Fri-Tue, 8.00-16.45. Evening overtime may be available.

Assessment days: 27th & 28th April 2026

Potential start date: 26th May 2026
