ABOUT THE ROLE
Ensigna Construction is offering a paid two-week General Labourer Work Placement for a local student or school leaver living in the London Borough of Hackney who is interested in pursuing a career in construction.
This placement forms part of our commitment to creating employment and training opportunities for local residents through our work with the London Borough of Hackney.
Working alongside experienced Contracts Managers and construction professionals, you will gain first-hand experience of how a live construction project is safely managed and delivered.
No previous construction experience is necessary—just a positive attitude, willingness to learn and a strong work ethic.
What You’ll Gain
This placement will provide valuable practical experience and an insight into careers within the construction industry, including opportunities in:

- Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ).

You will receive a minimum of 8 hours of mentoring, workplace learning and employability support during the placement.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE
Under the supervision of our site management team, your duties will include:
- Assisting with general site housekeeping and maintaining a clean, safe working environment.
- Supporting the movement and storage of materials.
- Assisting operatives with non-skilled construction activities.
- Helping to maintain pedestrian routes and site segregation.
- Supporting waste segregation, recycling and environmental initiatives.
- Assisting with deliveries and keeping storage areas organised.
- Observing construction sequencing and project delivery.
- Attending daily site briefings and toolbox talks.
- Learning about construction health & safety and quality standards
Throughout the placement you will also gain supervised exposure to:
- Site logistics.
- Health & Safety procedures.
- Environmental management.
- Construction sequencing.
- Quantity Surveying and Project Management.
- Sustainability and recycling initiatives.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an interest in construction or landscaping.
- Is reliable, punctual and enthusiastic.
- Is willing to learn and work as part of a team.
- Takes pride in keeping the workplace clean and organised.
- Has a positive attitude towards health and safety.
Essential Requirements
- Wear the required 4-point Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Safety Helmet.
- High Visibility Vest.
- Safety Boots.
- Protective Gloves.
- Attend the project site induction.
- Comply with all site health & safety and safeguarding procedures.
