ABOUT THE ROLE

The Catering & Events Department is responsible for external hire of the venue and delivering all food and drink services throughout Sadler’s Wells and The Peacock Theatre to create memorable events, with the focus on maximising profit and excellent customer experience. We are expanding with an additional site at Sadler’s Wells East that will host café, bar and events.

As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and efficiency across the kitchen and storage areas. From cleaning and tidying to receiving and organising deliveries, you’ll be at the heart of the operation.

You’ll manage stock and perform weekly deep cleans of equipment like stoves and fryers. Your work will be vital in creating a safe, well-maintained space for high quality kitchen service and the smooth running of memorable customer experiences.

The main responsibility of the Kitchen Porter is to ensure that the kitchen is clean, tidy and maintained to high standards. Work well within the kitchen team to assist with smooth and efficient running of the kitchen operation at Sadlers Wells East.

Offering at Sadler’s Wells East:

There are two retail outlets (Park Kitchen & Bar and The Well) and events spaces available for external hire.

  • Park Kitchen & Bar is the larger bar with 80-100 covers with a menu that is current, on trend and playful, with a majority produced in house.
  • The Well is daytime café turning into a theatre bar in the evening with a fresh seasonal menu of hot dishes, fresh salads, sandwiches, pastries and homemade bakery also prepared on site.
  • For events, we offer a range of spaces and catering options; from canapes and bowl food to corporate breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness in all catering areas.
  • Follow instruction and complete tasks well within a given time frame.
  • Collection and storage of deliveries.
  • Take a proactive approach to food safety and health and safety.
  • Support catering operations across other sites when required.

Operations

  • Efficient day-to-day operations ensuring system compliance.
  • General cleaning and tidying duties of catering areas.
  • Daily clear down at the end of each shift.
  • Weekly deep clean of all areas including equipment such as stoves, hoods, canopy, deep fryers.
  • Collection and storage of deliveries. Redistributing stock to specific Front of House and Back of House areas as required.
  • Weekly stock count of cleaning consumables (May also assist with general stock count).
  • Follow processes and systems to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective delivery.

Catering and Events

  • Ensure the Company Food Safety Policy is always adhered to.
  • Ensure the Company Health & Safety Policy is always adhered to.
  • Advise Head Chef/Sous Chef of any breakage or malfunction of catering equipment so service or replacement can be arranged.
  • Ensure all relevant food safety/H&S paperwork is completed.
  • Complete all compulsory training as detailed in SW Food Safety policy.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Team player with the ability to follow instructions and ask questions.
  • Ability to complete tasks well and within a given time frame.
  • Hard working with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Have an understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety.
  • Be able to work to high standards under pressure maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proactive, level-headed, sensible, trustworthy and reliable.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Must hold the right to work in the UK
  • Experience in working within a Theatre, Arts or Entertainment Venue (desirable).
  • Particular interest in the events/hospitality sector (desirable).
